Reregistration Information and Continuing Education Requirements
Here are a few things to remember to maintain eligibility as a Registered Aromatherapist (RA):
- Registration is recognized for a maximum period of five years.
- To maintain Registration, you must comply with the ARC Disciplinary Policy.
- You must also comply with other ARC standards, policies, and procedures.
- All RAs are responsible for maintaining continuing education records used for the Application.
There are two ways to reregister:
1) Meet the requirements for reregistration through continuing education which include earning an average of 20 continuing education credits per year (a total of 100 credits for the five year period) and paying the $325 renewal fee. You can reregister via continuing education by completing steps 1-4 in your online ARC Account by logging into the website. (See the information below and download the Detailed CE Guidelines.) Learn more about our new online ARC Accounts.
OR
2) Reregister by taking and passing the then-current Registration Examination (the fee testing fee is $370. This option is designed for any RA that has not accrued 100 hours of continuing education hours in five years. Make sure you allow adequate time to schedule, take, and pass the exam before your registration period ends so that your registration does not lapse. You can apply to take the exam for reregistration by logging into your ARC Account and click or tap on the blue bar titled “IF YOU PREFER TO TAKE THE EXAM INSTEAD OF REREGISTERING VIA CONTINUING EDUCATION OPEN THIS AREA” and following the directions.
GUIDELINES FOR ARC REREGISTRATION THROUGH CONTINUING EDUCATION
What you need to know to Reregister through Continuing Education
To apply for reregistration through continuing education, 100 contact hours (CH) of continuing education related to aromatherapy practice, that have been completed within the five years prior to the candidate’s registration renewal date, must be submitted for consideration.
Please remember that the purpose of CEUs is to help professionals stay up-to-date with new research and education, as well as current practices in their field. To adhere to requirements established by many local, national, and international licensing bodies, except for the very specific and limited instances outlined in the Detailed CE Guidelines that can be downloaded below, instructors of courses shall not receive CE credit for classes/courses they instruct.
100 contact hours are equal to 100 actual hours made up from an aromatherapy-related continuing education offering provided by any approved educational body or organization. For clarification, 1 contact hour is equal to 1 CH or 1 CE. If the continuing education is listed by college/university credits, each individual academic credit will be considered as ten (10) Contact Hours and may be at undergraduate or graduate level.
RAs need to complete the online Reregistration Application by following the steps located in their ARC Profile and pay the $325 renewal fee. All activities that fall within the following requirements and continuing education guidelines below need to be listed, supporting documentation uploaded, and saved in the CEU section before final application submission.
Training in Raindrop Therapy or AromaTouch is not approved as a continuing education offering as these administrative techniques are not approved as safe administration methods by ARC.
Continuing Education MUST BE Aromatherapy-related or related to your business practice and can include:
- Workshops
- Seminars
- Professional development offerings
- Distance-education courses
- State, national, and international conferences
- Academic courses
- The preparation and presentation of a professional education topic relevant to aromatherapy
- An original article written by the candidate and published in a professional journal
In addition, contact hours can be earned by participating in an item review session. A three-hour ARC item review session is equivalent to 3 contact hours. To be considered as a potential participant, please contact the ARC Board outlining your aromatherapy training at gro.licnuocyparehtamora @ofni
Please Note:
- All RAs are responsible for maintaining continuing education records used for this Application. Always keep a backup copy of your files for your records.
- All Applications must include documentation for all of the entries provided. For example, a real-time or online lecture, workshop/seminar, or teleseminar must be verified with a certificate of completion issued by the organizer that contains the participant’s name, date of completion, number of credit hours earned, and the name of the organizer/organization. All CE Certificates can be saved as pdfs in one file on a computer.
- All CE Certificates must be earned by some type of verification system that ensures actual participation by the Registered Aromatherapist.
-
To adhere to requirements established by many local, national, and international licensing bodies, except for the very specific and limited instances outlined in our detailed CE Guidelines, instructors of courses shall not receive CE credit for classes/courses they instruct.
- Any CE certificate with a completion date of June 1st, 2024 or later that can be obtained without any type of verification of actual participation, or is issued automatically with purchase, will not be accepted.
- Download the detailed CE Guidelines above for all rules, allowances, and any max allowed CE hours for any category.
